- Keisoukun wall materials are made from “keiso-do” diatomaceous earth, formed when the silicic acid found in the glassy exoskeletons of plankton accumulated and fossilized at the bottom of seas and lakes 8-10 million years ago. The particles that make up diatomaceous earth are filled with innumerable tiny pores less than one micron across. The porous nature of keiso earth gives it special properties which are essential for healthy lifestyles such as the ability to regulate temperatures and deodorize air. In other words, keiso earth is a natural air controller. It has been used for Japanese architectures for ages.
- Used as raw material for plaster since ancient times, its strong alkalinity makes it highly resistant to mold and bacteria. In addition, lime is known for its ability to break down formaldehyde. The hardening process involves the absorption of CO2 from the air and so it can take some time for a wall to fully harden. However, because it absorbs CO2, this helps to mitigate climate change.
